Philip Malouf
Congratulations to Philip Malouf, MS IV.
The American Heart Association has granted Philip
the Student Scholarship in Cardiovascular Disease
& Stroke Research for 2005.

Philip was awarded the scholarship after presenting two abstracts in poster form at the American Society of Echocardiography annual meeting in Boston this year. The scholarship will allow him to continue his research, including assessing how measurements are affected following pulmonary thromboendarterectomy, a procedure that is done at only three hospitals in the world (UCSD is one!).

The project was a branch from his NIH Summer Research Grant project which introduced Philip to echocardiography, particularly tissue Doppler imaging (and which he presented in poster form at the American College of Chest Physicians Annual Meeting 2004 in Seattle).

Our congratulations to Philip for receiving this esteemed honor for his research.  We commend him on this wonderful achievement!
